Tenant Story
How co-founder Jesse Bruce and his team built Toronto’s premier hybrid fitness community, and expanded to King West.

Since launching its flagship Leslieville facility in 2017, One Academy has built a reputation across Toronto for merging high-intensity group training with a structured, science-backed methodology. Co-founded by hybrid endurance athlete Jesse Bruce alongside Eric Vieira, One Academy started as a gym with a dream to bring people together and make effective group training accessible to all levels.
Rather than relying on random daily workouts, One Academy structures its programming around HiFLUX®, a proprietary four-week progressive system. The methodology is structured in blocks combining strength, conditioning, and hybrid training, allowing members to track measurable progress over time without hitting plateaus.
"HiFLUX® gives you a real plan that builds week over week. Nothing is random; every session has a purpose."
- Jesse Bruce, Co-Founder, One Academy
The core of the One Academy philosophy sits at the intersection of fitness and community. Classes draw from a full range of performance equipment - barbells and squat racks, turf zones for sled and agility work, and top-tier cardio ergometers - giving members everything they need to move through a HiFLUX® session.
Beyond physical metrics, the facility places heavy emphasis on providing space to bring people together, anchored by their mission to fill hearts with hope, bodies with strength, and minds with confidence.

This athletic approach is paired with an open, team-driven culture. Whether training for a race or competition, refininglifts, or establishing a baseline fitness routine, members train in unified group sessions designed to scale to individual capabilities.
"It’s bigger than fitness. People get physically stronger, but the community builds lasting friendships and resilience. It’s a home for everyone."
- Jesse Bruce, Co-Founder, One Academy
To support their growing footprint across the city, One Academy selected 474 Wellington Street West as the home for One Academy Downtown. Situated near the intersection of King Street West and Spadina Avenue, the location brings their complete suite of group training and personal training options directly into Toronto’s downtown core.

The 474 Wellington West space features a group training space with dedicated turf zones, lifting bays, top-tier cardio equipment, towel service and full change room amenities. Designed to serve as a daily hub for downtown residents and office workers, the site also includes an integrated cafe and lounge area, where members gather before class, work remotely, and meet after training. By opening the café out front to both gym-goers and passing neighbors, the space functions as an everyday social anchor rather than a closed gym.

“474 Wellington West gives us a central King West hub where performance and community come together.”
- Jesse Bruce, Co-Founder, One Academy
The downtown opening joins One Academy’s established locations in Leslieville and Etobicoke, expanding their multi-hub network across Toronto. By grounding technical strength and conditioning in a purpose-built physical environment, One Academy continues to scale a sustainable model for urban health and athletic performance.
